MMA Video: Mike Winkeljohn Talks All Things Jones vs. Evans

We all know the storyline for Jon Jones vs. Rashad Evans by now, and if you don't, I'm not sure why you're reading this.

Mike Winkeljohn, one of Evans' former coaches and one of Jones' current, assessed the light heavyweight title fight that the two engaged in last month at UFC 145; Jones took the fight by unanimous decision, but it was by no means the kind of thoroughly dominant performance that we've come to expect from the young champion.

"It was good," said Winkeljohn. "You know what? For the most part, Jon did everything -- ninety-five percent of what he did was great. You know, Jon listens. He respected Rashad the way we wanted to. He just got a little too close for a little bit too long a few times with Rashad. But, other than that, pretty much just broke him down and beat him up.

"I have to say a lot of great things about Rashad. Not many people would take that kind of abuse and not be able to hit back and just the mental problem that goes through your head right there where it's just, 'Why am I here?' When you can't reach somebody and you can't hit 'em, it's kind of a scary moment. I wanted to instill that fear in Rashad with Jon's pressure and Rashad didn't succumb to all that. He fought through it, so a lot of credit to Rashad."
