MMA: Strikeforce Fedor vs. Henderson Preview, Predictions

Publish date:

Its legend vs. legend at this weekend’s Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson card from the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Strikeforce light heavyweight champion and former pride champion Dan Henderson takes on former pride and WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko.

The five fight main card, which airs on Showtime isn’t just a one trick pony. As Strikeforce CEO said “The Fedor vs. Henderson fight card is one of the best Strikeforce has ever had.”

The rest of the fight card has a women’s title fight, along with three other fights that will surely re-shape the title picture in two divisions. Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson has the making of an action packed, exciting card that should not be missed.

As I look into my “sometimes cloudy” crystal ball of MMA knowledge and foresight, I give you how Saturday night’s action will play out:

170 lbs.: Tarec Saffiedine vs. Scott Smith

The night will start off with what Scott Smith will hope to be a brawl but Tarec Saffiedine will use his Muay Thai to soften up the heavy-handed Smith. This will allow Saffiedine to easy get a takedown that will lead to a submission (rear naked choke) win for Tarec Saffiedine.

170 lbs.: Paul Daley vs. Tyron Woodley

Daley was originally scheduled to face fellow brawler Evangelista Santos but an injury flipped the table on Daley. In stepped Tyron Woodley and his strong wrestling background that doesn’t bode well for Daley. Woodley will weather the opening onslaught and take the fight to the ground ASAP. Though the submission will be there, Tyron Woodley will pass on it and ground and pound his way to a TKO victory.

185 lbs.: Tim Kennedy vs. Robbie Lawler

Lawler gets another tough draw and will have to defend the takedown once again. Kennedy will stand with Lawler but should it not work out he’ll fall back on the ground game. Lawler has seven career losses with five coming via submission, Tim Kennedy will hand him the sixth defeat via submission after the two trade punches in the opening round.

135 lbs. Title Fight: Marloes Coenen vs. Miesha Tate

Miesha Tate has been out of action for nearly a year after winning the women’s welterweight tournament. This coupled with he aggression will be the challengers downfall as she’ll over commit and find herself in the clinch. From here Marloes Coenen will take her down and catch her in a submission.

265 lbs.: Dan Henderson vs. Fedor Emelianenko

The night’s main event will likely be the main cards only fight to go the distance. That’s not saying it will be a boring fight, but more of a respect for the numbers these two have put up. Fedor will go into this fight with the size advantage he has rarely been afforded. This size advantage will be the key to Fedor Emelianenko getting back in the win column as he’ll win a unanimous decision 29-28 across the board.

Let us know who you think is going to win and make sure to join us in the Fight Night Chat room during the event to discuss the night of action.
