According to the Associate Press, heavyweight mixed martial artist Mike Whitehead was sentenced to 1-4 years today by a Clark County, Las Vegas judge for his guilty plea in a sexual assault case.
Whitehead was alleged to have forcefully had sex with a sleeping woman he allowed to stay at his house after a party and groped her friend who was staying in the same bed.
Whitehead submitted an Alford plea to attempted sexual assault, meaning that he maintains his innocence but admits that the prosecution can prove him guilty. The plea saved Whitehead from several other charges, including lewdness and sexual assault, which could have landed him in prison for well over a decade.
In addition to the 1-4 year prison sentence, Whitehead was ordered to pay $2,400 in restitution and register as a lifetime sex offender.
Sporting a record of 27-7 as a professional, Whitehead - who works closely with UFC heavyweight fighter Frank Mir - last appeared in action in October, defeating Jojo Thompson via first round submission at Rage in the Cage 56, which took place in Chandler, Arizona.
