MMA News: Fabricio Werdum Excited About UFC Prospects

Fabricio Werdum looked to be the next big star of the UFC's heavyweight division when he stepped inside the Octagon to face Junior dos Santos back at UFC 90. Instead, it was dos Santos that knocked out Werdum and eventually secured the UFC heavyweight title.

Now, several years later, Werdum is back in the UFC and will face Roy Nelson Saturday night at UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit. The KO loss to "Cigano" was the first such defeat of Werdum's career, and it helped focus his attention back to training.

"I don't like my last fight in the UFC because I lost by knockout for the first time in my career," said Werdum, in a recent interview with MMAjunkie.com. "But everything has changed now. I'm more professional now; I'm training every day."

Werdum (14-5-1) is 2-2 in his UFC career, and was part of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix after defeating Fedor Emelianenko. He lost in the tournament to Alistair Overeem, and the division has since been combined with the UFC.

"To be the UFC champion is one of my biggest dreams, and I hope it's like the same feeling I have in the Fedor fight, and it's something I'm looking forward to," Werdum said.
