Miesha Tate Has Some Harsh Words for Bellator
Former Strikeforce women's champion Miesha Tate is taking a stand for all female fighters. Tate's current quest involves Bellator 115-pound champion Zoila Gurgel, and her placement on Friday's under card for Bellator 78.
Gurgel, who meets Casey Noland, has yet to defend her title since winning it in a tournament. Bellator 78 will be taking place in Dayton, near Gurgel's current hometown of Cincinnati, but she is still set to compete on the non-televised portion of the card.
"(Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney) I cannot believe you would allow your champion to be placed on the UN televised undercard in her hometown," Tate wrote on Twitter Sunday. "A champion is a champion regardless if she is fighting up a weight, u use her image to promote the posters & then put her on the undercard?! Blows my mind."
Tate added that she would rather "never fight MMA again" then fight for u under (Bellator)." She is currently signed to a contract with Strikeforce.
Gurgel expressed her thanks for Tate's comments, posting, "Thx lady! Every1 is backing me & (women's MMA) on this. Your a force 2 b reckoned w/ 4 sure;) Your words mean a lot."
The MTV2-televised main card features two welterweight semifinals and a pair of non-tournament bouts, as well.
