If anyone can make the transition from NFL tough guy to Kelly Ripa’s co-host on “Live!” it’s most definitely Michael Strahan.
Strahan, 40, is currently a host on Fox NFL Sunday and has long since been recognized as one of the most personable guys in football. He did several fill-ins beside Ripa over the past year and -- by all accounts -- performed well each time, but he still wasn’t considered a favorite to land the gig up until today.
Via FOX News:
Strahan, 40, a former NFL star and currently a host of "Fox NFL Sunday," was in negotiations to be named as replacement for Regis Philbin, according to a source who spoke on condition of anonymity because the source was not authorized to speak about the negotiations.
Broadcasting & Cable, citing multiple sources with knowledge of the situation, said ABC was expected to announce him as co-host in early September.
TMZ has also confirmed the rumors:
Several staffers told TMZ ... the talk in the building is that Strahan -- who played in the NFL and won a Super Bowl ring -- will be announced as the co-host.
Ripa has been working without a permanent co-host ever since Regis Philbin retired in November of 2011. She has worked with 59 fill-ins since then, but apparently she’s now finally ready to settle down.
And this is the guy who she wants to settle down with:
An official announcement is expected to come on September 4.
