Matt Wiman Makes a Statement with Big Win over Paul Sass at UFC on FUEL TV 5
Matt Wiman got Paul Sass' arm and didn't let go, handing the Brit his first career loss Saturday at UFC on Fuel TV: Struve vs. Miocic. Wiman improved to 5-1 in his last six with the victory.
Wiman took nearly a year off after a win over Mac Danzig via decision, and felt the time spent away from competition was well worth it. He locked Sass up with an armbar after the two engaged in a lengthy mat contest.
"I don't know why, but I was more nervous (than I've been)," Wiman said. "I have a lot of respect for (Sass). He's never lost and you have to take defeat from (someone who is undefeated), you have to break him. I feel so humble right now."
Wiman has now earned five submission victories in his career, including two in the UFC. He is 15-6 in his career.
"I feel lucky and blessed to be on the winning side," Wiman said. "(The finish) is kind of a blur to me."
Sass falls to 13-1 in his career, and 3-1 inside the Octagon.
