Marcin Held (11-2) has been waiting for another chance at Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler, ever since he was defeated by him in the Season 4 lightweight tournament 20 months ago. Chandler would go on to capture the lightweight championship at the conclusion of the tournament.
"I am definitely hoping that Michael Chandler still has the title after this tournament so I can get a rematch against him in the biggest fight of my life," said Held to MMA Junkie. "I know I am ready for him now."
When they first met, Chandler needed only the first round to secure the submission win. He noted that his nerves played a large role in the loss and he has since become a more settled fighter.
Since that loss, Held has secured four wins in a row where three of those took place for Bellator.
"Fighting in the United States for the first time on television definitely played a huge factor in that fight for me," said Held. "With that being said, Michael was just plain better than me that night. I just wasn't ready for him then – but now I am."
Tomorrow, at Bellator 81, Held will compete in the semifinals of the Season 7 lightweight tournament against Rich Clementi (45-21-1). The other half of the tournament will see Dave Jansen (18-2) take on Ricardo Tirloni (15-2).
Bellator 81 takes place from the Ryan Center at The University of Rhode Island. MTV will air the main card and Spike.com the preliminary action. It is one of the final Bellator shows before they move to Spike TV starting in January.
