In an effort to further confuse a situation that Michael Koncz muddied up towards the end of last week, Bob Arum recently came out and reiterated that Manny Pacquiao’s next fight will take place in September of this year.
Late last week, Koncz, Pacquiao’s longtime advisor, conducted an interview in which he stated that September and October of 2013 were both being eyed as possible dates for his guy’s next fight. He also stressed that, contrary to popular belief, Juan Manuel Marquez wasn’t the only legitimate opponent they were contemplating squaring off against. Both ideas flew in the face of common wisdom, and both (well, one for sure, the other sort of) were subsequently swatted down by Arum when he conducted an interview with ESPN.
"He is fighting in September," Arum said on Friday. "I don't know against who and I'm not exactly sure where, but it looks like Macau or Singapore."
The Top Rank boss added that, regardless of where exactly in Asia Pacquiao’s next bout took place, it would be held at The Venetian resort.
"They own both properties there, so it doesn't matter," he noted.
Prior to this past weekend, Arum had insisted that aside from Marquez, he was considering Brandon Rios and Timothy Bradley as potential foes for Pacquiao. However, because Rios lost to Mike Alvarado on Saturday night and will likely fight him again next, the only real option on the table for all involved is Pacquiao-Marquez V.
