The long-awaited fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather has finally been set for May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and now we wait for all the hype that comes along with it.
To create additional hype, World Boxing Council president Mauricio Sulaiman announced that the winner will take home a new WBC belt to commemorate the importance of this welterweight clash.
“For this special recognition I would like to have emeralds or platinum, but everything will be defined during the next weeks," Sulaiman said. “This is because of the magnitude of the event, which will be broadcast via TV networks globally.
“It came in a good moment and it will be an emotive event. Both are obviously putting their legacy at stake, to prove who's the best, satisfying an enormous created expectance. They are also competing to be considered one of the best 10 fighters in the entire boxing history.”
This is one of the most anticipated fights in the recent years, and we can expect the mainstream media to have a field day with this one. According to reports, ringside seats are already priced at $250,000.
Sulaiman could not specify what the belt would look like, but with the type of fight this is, we can expect it to be something very special.
