Many fantasy football experts looked at the Buffalo Bills running back situation as one to keep a close eye on. With three very capable backs, each one individually lost quite a bit of value. Who will start? Will Marshawn Lynch get significant time? If C.J. Spiller is the truth, won’t he immediately be the go-to guy?
Well, at least in the short term, the Bills backfield situation got really clear, really quickly.
Sources tell the Buffalo News that probably starter Fred Jackson will miss 4-6 weeks with a hand injury that he suffered in the preseason opener against the Washington Redskins. That’s some serious time. Do the math, he’s most likely missing some regular season action.
Meanwhile, Lynch, the former first-round pick, will miss 3-4 weeks with a sprained ankle he went down with in the same game.
This means that Spiller is now directly in the spotlight for the next month or so. Could he dazzle a la Adrian Peterson in his rookie year and make the other two irrelevant? We guess it’s possible, but we doubt it. Having three nice backs is very important and now we can see why. They get hurt.
Be careful drafting Spiller too high even though they have the injuries. We’re sure they’ll be put back in the mix when they are healthy. Plus, how many TD’s do you really think the Bills are going to score this year anyway?
