Lane Kiffin Fired by USC After Embarrassing Loss to Arizona State

The USC Trojans mercifully put Lane Kiffin out of his misery on Sunday morning after a pathetic 62-41 loss to Arizona State. With a 3-2 record, seven losses in 11 games and at least four more Ls on the horizon, Pat Haden finally pulled the trigger on a move that he should’ve made last year.

Now, on top of this being a lost season, USC also missed out on a full summer of recruiting that their new coach could have had.

Through four years at USC, Kiffin was 28-15. Along the way he was provided with a number of convenient excuses and alibis for his shortcomings, but anyone who followed the team knew exactly who the real problem was. He lost the players before dropping his final three games of 2012, and the Trojans’ inability to develop a competent starting quarterback for this season was ultimately the final nail in the coffin.

USC was ranked No. 24 in the preseason, but even that was too high. By the third week, they were off the charts altogether.

Thankfully, USC has a bye week to figure out what comes next.

Have to think James Franklin will have to say no before they move on to anyone else.
