Lakers Lose Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol, Jordan Hill to Injuries

When it rains, it pours. Fresh off a 112-105 home defeat to the Denver Nuggets and four losses in their last five games, the Los Angeles Lakers got dealt another blow on Monday morning.

In a press release, the team announced that its three best big men were all going to be out with injuries of varying severity. Dwight Howard suffered a torn labrum in his right shoulder; Pau Gasol somehow got a concussion; Jordan Hill hurt his hip.

Los Angeles’ next four games are against Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, Oklahoma City Thunder and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Dwight Howard is out at least 1 week with a torn labrum in his right shoulder. Re-evaluated next week.

The hits keep coming for LAL, as Jordan Hill also has a hip injury and will not travel with the team.

To review: LAL’s best 3 bigs will not play at Houston & San Antonio. Look for Robert Sacre to get called up, & Jamison/MWP play up front.

Something worth remembering as it pertains to the timeframes announced with these injuries: Steve Nash was only supposed to be out a week, too. Howard hasn’t been healthy all year long, and this will only further slow down his progress.

On the bright side, if any coach in the league knows how to utilize a small lineup to maximum efficiency it’s definitely Mike D’Antoni. On the not-so-bright side, the Lakers lack three-point shooters, the thing that -- in the past -- permitted D’Antoni to utilize small lineups to maximum efficiency.

Buckle up, folks – it’s going to be an interesting week.
