One of the primary reasons why Steve Nash ultimately landed in Los Angeles this summer is because that is where he wanted to go. Understandably, Suns ownership was reluctant to ship him off to a divisional rival; because of everything Nash had done for that organization, though, his request was obliged.
After being traded to the Lakers, Nash repeatedly made it known that he had numerous reasons for wanting to come to Los Angeles. He wanted to compete for a championship, he wanted to explore some opportunities in the entertainment field, etc. The chief reason he wanted to come to the Lakers, however, according to him, was because it permitted him to be closer to his kids.
That is what ultimately makes a recent TMZ report all the weirder. Check it out:
Sources connected with the couple tell TMZ ... Nash's ex-wife Alejandra wants to move the former couple's three children from AZ to L.A. We're told Nash has objected and is waging a legal war to prevent it from happening.
Our sources say Alejandra hired one of the biggest divorce lawyers in L.A., Lance Spiegel, to fight Nash in both AZ and California courts.
Without speaking to either party, it is impossible to know what the motivations behind this alleged battle are. That being said, one interesting thought: is it odd that Nash wouldn’t want his kids in Los Angeles after saying that one of his primary objectives was being closer to them? Sure. But it’s also pretty weird that his ex-wife would engage him in a legal battle for the sole purpose of forcing a move to Los Angeles. Why would it matter to her one way or the other where the kids were stationed in relation to their dad?
There is obviously way more to the story than what is currently being reported on.
