Knicks Move Mozgov to the Bench

The New York Knicks are already shaking up their line-up early in the season.  The team recently started Amare Stoudemire at center with Wilson Chandler playing power forward, leaving rookie Timofey Mozgov as the odd man out in the starting rotation.

Coach Mike D’Antoni had high praise of the rookie center in the preseason, but admitted starting the big man may have been too much to soon for the rookie.

“I might have messed up a little bit by putting [Mozgov] out there a little too quick.  I just thought that was better for the team, and it might be, and we might come back to it. But right now for him, coming in off the bench is better for him, and the biggest thing is opening the floor for Amare.”

The move makes sense for the Knicks who need to rely on athleticism and spacing the floor, more than having a true post presence like Mozgov.  However, don’t be surprised if by the end of the season Mozgov finds himself playing near starter minutes.
