The Boston Herald is reporting that Kevin Garnett has decided to return to the Boston Celtics. And not just for one year. According to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports, it's 3 years for $34 million.
Garnett is 36 years old and has been playing in the NBA since 1995. Retirement talks were pretty loud this year... but ultimately, he's decided to come back to the team where he won his only championship. There was no doubt that if he put off retirement for a bit that he'd be going back to Boston as he loves playing for Doc Rivers.
With Rajon Rondo and Paul Pierce still in the fold, it seems like Boston will continue to make title runs while possibly transitioning to the next generation of younger Celtic players instead of going on a full rebuild. Don't know if Ray Allen will go back to Boston next season (there is noise about him going to Miami) but their boisterious defensive ace is going to have a few more runs with the Celtics.
I, for one, am not ready to see an NBA without Kevin Garnett and I feel that KG still has a lot to give (he was fantastic in last year's playoffs). So I'm glad he's not retiring.
And I'm sure Boston is glad as well.
