How do you turn a dime into $63,034.08? Bet it at a New Mexico racetrack, apparently.
Julia Kring, 72, won big last week when hit the Solo Pick 6 at Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino in New Mexico. The Frankfort, Ky. resident, who by all indications isn’t any sort of odds wizard, made the very wise decision to bet that day when she ran across an advertisement for the Sunland Pick 6 and felt like it was worth taking a chance on.
Turns out, she was right.
"I saw an ad for the Sunland Pick 6 and decided to take a chance on that racetrack that day," Kring said in an interview with the El Paso Times.
"I spent a lot of time studying, but it was all luck. I was fortunate to hit the Pick 6, but I'll take it. It was an exciting day for me. I love trying to figure out a race. There are so many things to figure out and try to pick a winner. Racing is my passion."
Amazingly enough, Kring actually wound up celebrating on two separate occasions. Initially, she thought that the 10-cent bet she had made only earned her $32,000. But then, according to WLKY, “one of her three horse picks in the first leg of the bet scratched, coupled with the favorite winning the same leg,” and that in turn gave her a winning combination for $63,000 prize.
Not bad for a day’s work, right?
