UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos is in Rio de Janeiro this week to participate in events surrounding the UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes fight card and lend support to his fellow Brazilians, himself on the shelf mending a knee injury.
At the top of the card, dos Santos' countrymen Jose Aldo and Vitor Belfort will be making appearances, taking on hungry young fighters Chad Mendes and Anthony Johnson respectively. Though you can assume bias, the newly crowned champ is picking his countrymen to overcome their foes, whom he admits are formidable.
"I think Aldo is one of the best and I expect him to get the knockout," dos Santos asserted. "Chad Mendes is tough; a great wrestler and very fit. But I think Aldo is amazing. He's one of the best pound-for-pound (fighters) in the world.
"Vitor is one of the true veterans of the sport and he's done so much. Anthony Johnson should be dangerous at middleweight, but I expect Vitor's experience to help him to victory."
Aldo and Belfort will get the chance to shine on home soil this Saturday night at the HSBC Arena in Rio; as usual, FightLine will be back on the night with live, ongoing coverage of the fights.
