Joseph Benavidez: "You'll See the Best Version of Me Yet on Saturday"

Joseph Benavidez would have preferred to have already fought for the UFC flyweight title. However, due to a scoring error in the Demetrious Johnson-Ian McCall fight earlier this year, Benavidez has been forced to wait on the sidelines.

This Saturday night, Benavidez will face Johnson for the right to become the first-ever UFC flyweight champion. The bout will be the co-main event for UFC 152: Jones vs. Belfort on pay-per-view.

"It was frustrating to wait since February for this fight because DJ had a draw against McCall, but it was just extra time to get better," said Benavidez, during open workouts Wednesday. "Most fighters train when they are fighting, I train to get better all the time. You get better as a fighter when you don't have a fight, but you are in the gym. You'll see the best version of me yet on Saturday."

Benavidez trains with Urijah Faber and Chad Mendes at Team Alpha Male in California. Faber recently faced Renan Barao for the interim UFC bantamweight title, while Mendes fought Jose Aldo for the UFC featherweight title earlier this year.
