Former Boston Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon took a dig at the members of Red Sox Nation on Thursday on Philadelphia radio stating that Philadelphia Phillies fans “tend to know the game a little better” than fans in Boston, who he said were “a little bit more hysterical when it comes to the game of baseball.”
Papelbon who stated in the interview with 94WIP’s Angelo Cataldi and The Morning Team that he had expected the Red Sox to be more aggressive in pursuing him in the offseason clearly had an agenda in making his comments. Taking his frustrations out on the fans however instead of the Red Sox front office was clearly not well thought out.
“The Philly fans tend to know the game a little better, being in the National League, you know, the way the game is played,” Paplebon said.
Paplebon’s Phillies play the Red Sox in Philadelphia on the 18th, 19th, and 20th of May. I’m guessing that Red Sox Nation will be well represented in voicing their displeasure to Jonathan in person.
