In the weeks leading up to Jerry Buss’ death, it was widely reported that the late Los Angeles Lakers owner was battling some form of cancer. Although people close to him were quick to confirm that this was in fact true, nobody wanted to specify what sort of cancer he was dealing with. This led to a lot of unfounded, baseless speculation.
On Tuesday morning, slightly more than one week after Buss’ passing, TMZ got its hands on his death certificate.
According to records, Buss suffered from prostate cancer before succumbing to kidney failure. The cancer was listed as ‘the second underlying cause of death,’ and had reportedly been something that the Lakers owner battled for 15 months.
The immediate cause of death was listed as renal failure. The first underlying cause was respiratory failure.
