Utah Jazz Fans: Keep Taunting Derek Fisher and Lakers

There was a column by Bill Plaschke in yesterday’s edition of the Los Angeles Times that called out the Utah Jazz fans for their treatment towards their former player Derek Fisher, who was asked to be released by the Jazz in 2007 in order to pursue treatment for his daughter’s eye cancer.

During game 3 on Saturday, the Utah Jazz fans chanted, “Fisher Sucks! Fisher Sucks!” which is a complete 180 from how he was treated 3 years ago. Plaschke and others believed it to be a class-less move by the Jazz fans but it is to be expected of them considering that the players voted Utah’s Energy Solutions Arena as the most intimidating arena to play in. They consistently bring the noise, chants and even insults every night and make no exceptions.

However, Fisher isn’t the best player to boo considering that he’s hit a countless number of big shots and was seemingly unfazed by the crowd and finished the game with 20 points. He did what any mentally-tough NBA Player would do: used it as motivation.

It’s not a big deal, he did his part and the Jazz fans did theirs. Why should Fisher care what the Jazz fans think? His family, his teammates and his friends understand his situation, he’s got another ring and best of all, his daughter Tatum has now regained 50% of her vision in her eye and the cancer is in remission.

The Jazz fans on the other hand, continue to be die-hard, think of new ways to distract their opponents and know what the true meaning of home court advantage is.

So at the end of the day, it really just is business as usual. Fisher– keep on doing what you’re doing. Jazz fans– it might not always work but keep on doing what you’re doing and don’t mind Mr. Plaschke.
