Hope Solo Says Dancing with the Stars is Rigged

In case you haven't heard, Hope Solo snitched out the whole world in her new book, Solo: A Memoir of Hope.

A few months ago, when the book initially debuted, it got a lot of press because of a particular excerpt in which Solo accused her old U.S. women’s soccer coach of physically assaulting her. Then, when the commotion surrounding that tidbit died down, folks latched onto a different passage in which she accused her former Dancing with the Stars partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, of slapping her. Now that the controversy surrounding the alleged slap has died down, a new bomb from the memoir has the world buzzing.

As noted by Radar Online:

Solo, in her new tome Solo: A Memoir of Hope, points to an incident in which Maks -- after learning via a "secret memo" he and Hope were scheduled to be eliminated -- stirred up trouble with the judges to milk the ensuing controversy for a few more weeks of airtime.

“Maks later told me that he had argued with the judges because he had been told we were going to be eliminated, that there was some secret memo going around that said who would be ousted each week," Solo wrote. “He explained that he wanted to cause some drama on the live portion of the show so that they wouldn’t be able to resist keeping us around, hoping for more fireworks.

“It seems to have worked -- we weren’t eliminated that week.”

Earth-shattering, right? For what it’s worth, Solo has never substantiated any of her claims. Everyone she has ever accused of doing anything says she’s lying, and ABC is using the same defense against these latest charges.

Is Solo actually lying? Who knows. Probably not. Why would she?

Either way, though, it is becoming increasingly clear that she will snitch out anyone and anything to move copies. Is it wrong, per se, to rat out guys who get rough with women? Nah – let them burn from the public scrutiny. Similarly, exposing a supposed reality show for their shady ways isn’t particularly awful either. What makes all of it slightly unseemly, however, is that it’s being done for financial gain. That’s why all this has the sleazy feel it ultimately has, not because of the substance behind the accusations.
