The Nacogdoches Dragons and Jacksonville Indians were prepared to give it everything they had at Friday’s District 14-4A game for a playoff berth, but even they weren’t prepared for what happened.
When all was said and done, it took 12 overtimes for the Dragons to beat the Indians 84-81 after a 19-yard field goal from Rodrigo Carreon.
Nacogdoches scored 53 points in overtime, however it still wasn't enough. The Dragons made a fatal error when they fumbled the ball and gave it back to Jacksonville in great field position. It turned out that their fifth fumble and 11th turnover of the game was all the Indians needed to end the festivities that had lasted over five hours.
The Dragons had a number of chances to pull out the victory but extended the game because they felt it would increase their chances at making the playoffs.
Unofficially, statisticians said that there were more than 1000 yards amassed in the game. There were approximately 60 combined first downs on the day.
The Dragons were led by Damion Johnson who rushed for three touchdowns and 264 yards on the day.
