Hector Lombard is Focused Heading into UFC 149 Showdown vs. Tim Boetsch

Former Olympic Judoka, Hector "Lightning" Lombard makes his much anticipated Octagon debut at UFC 149 this Saturday against Tim "The Barbarian" Boetsch.

Lombard is on a sizzling 20 fight win streak, although the lack of big names on his list of victims has for the past couple of years inspired heated debate amongst MMA fans over whether or not he's a top 10 middleweight.

Lombard will get his chance to silence the critics when he faces Boetsch, who is coming off a huge come-from-behind knockout victory over perennial top contender, Yushin Okami at UFC 144.

In that fight, "The Barbarian" displayed the exact type of fighting spirit that Lombard praises.

"He's not the most technical guy out there, but he has the determination to win the fight," Lombard admitted on a recent episode of UFC Ultimate Insider.

Lombard isn't called "Lightning" for no reason. He's fast and powerful, with 17 of his career wins coming by knockout. But even though he holds a significant speed advantage over Boetsch, he hasn't allowed that to cloud his thinking, "I'm very fast and stuff like that, but you can't get cocky."

Lombard is a man who has taken nothing for granted, and that's an intangible quality that cannot be taught.

For a fighter with such hype surrounding him, that shows mental strength, and most importantly, focus.

"I don't think about the money. I don't think about the belt. In my next fight, I just focus on the win," explained Lombard.

It's that level of focus that will be on display tomorrow at UFC 149.
