Apparently the new bandwagon Miami Heat fans haven’t heard the expression: “Don’t put the cart before the horse.”
Courtesy of the South Florida SunSentinel's Ira Winderman, we now know that at open intersquad scrimmages where the team is playing half speed, the fans in attendance like to break out in chorus chants of “Beat L.A.”
Well, that’s just great.
The fan base of the team that has proven absolutely nothing of note -- beyond an amazing ability to get injured in meaningless preseason games and debut new turquoise shoes -- thinks that they’ve earned the right to call out the defending champs. Shouldn’t there be some kind of “get out of the first round of the NBA Playoffs in the prior season” requirement to talking trash?
Not that this is surprising. Clearly the fans are taking their cue from the three most narcissistic and self-absorbed superstars in the league. Remember, these are the guys who, upon their WWE-style introduction in Miami, proclaimed they were on a mission to win multiple championships. Generally, a team wins one title and then starts talking dynasties. Not these guys, though. Not the pre-season champs of the NBA.
The worst part of this is that they were doing it at a scrimmage.
