When you’re coming off a huge victory and have Jack Nicklaus calling one of your shots “incredible,” the oddsmakers sit up and take notice. Following Tiger Woods’ clutch Memorial Tournament win this past Sunday, the powers that be adjusted his U.S. Open odds to 6-1 – thus making him the favorite.
Prior to this weekend, he was sitting at 12-1 to win the next major. Here is how the odds look now, as per Bovada:
Tiger Woods – 6/1
Lee Westwood – 12/1
Luke Donald – 12/1
Phil Mickelson – 14/1
Rory McIltroy – 14/1
Bubba Watson – 28/1
Matt Kuchar – 28/1
While it’s great that Woods seemingly has his groove back, it is worth mentioning that we saw something similar to this prior to the Masters. Golf’s biggest name came off a victory that many dubbed the official starting point of his comeback tour, went into Augusta as the favorite to win it all, and then proceeded to finish in a tie for 41st place.
The U.S. Open will definitely be interesting, no doubt about it.
