After weeks of disagreement on contracts, tickets for the Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather May 2 fight went on sale Thursday. About 1,000 tickets were available to the public and were sold in about 60 seconds.
The rest of the tickets are going to promoters, the fighters’ friends and family, the casino and sponsors.
So what if you really want to be at the MGM Grand for the fight? Well, tickets are now on resale, but unless you have a large amount of money to spend, then you might be better off paying $99 to watch it on pay-per-view. Up until Friday, tickets on StubHub were going as high as $128,705.
"We've never seen anything like this in boxing, and I don't think in any sporting event," Bob Arum, Pacquiao's promoter said. "The 1% has so much money, they don't know how to spend it. Whether it's yachts, paintings, or tickets to a fight, money means nothing.”
The fight is projected to reach close to the $400 million mark in total revenue and break all kinds of boxing records. The pay-per-view price is the highest ever.
