The highly-anticipated fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao May 2 is expected to break all kinds of records and is expected to make close to $300 million in revenue. Pacquiao though, will make an extra $2.25 million from ads on the shorts he will wear for the fight, according to the Manila Bulletin.
"The rate for this fight is different from the previous (fights)," Eric Pineda, Pacquiao's business manager said. "So far, we have six (companies) that will have their logos on Manny's trunks."
It seems like a crazy amount of money for a small add on a pair of shorts, but with the fight being in the works for over five years, it is expected to be the most watched fights in years. The hype that the fight has will attract even non-boxing fans to watch, and the pay-per-view price is set for $99—the highest price ever.
Mayweather and Pacquiao will split the winnings 60 and 40 percent respectively, so maybe Pacquiao is just finding ways to make up that 20 percent in other ways. Regardless, both fighters will make a great deal of money whether they win or lose.
