The long-awaited fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather took over five years to finally come a reality. The contract was very specific with many details, including a joint pay-per-view event between Showtime and HBO. The deal included the opportunity for a pre-fight programming.
Showtime will be producing a four-part “Inside Mayweather and Pacquiao” series, while HBO announced a one-hour special called “Mayweather/Pacquiao: At Last.”
The Showtime documentary-like special will focus mostly on Mayweather, while the HBO special will focus mostly on Pacquiao and will go behind the scenes on how the fight of the century came to be.
“This is the mega-fight fans have been anticipating for many years, and we are thrilled to chronicle Manny Pacquiao’s path to this defining moment in his career,” HBO Sports executive producer Rick Bernstein said. “This special will provide viewers with a narrative of how this fight came to be and spotlight Team Pacquiao’s preparations heading into the biggest challenge Manny has confronted in the ring. It will be a terrific primer for any viewer eager to go behind the scenes in the lead-up to May 2.”
HBO will air “Mayweather/Pacquiao: At Last” April 18, and will also air another 30-minute on April 26, but details haven’t been releases. Also, a HBO will televise a Pacquiao “mini-marathon of classic fights” April 17.
