Floyd Mayweather Confirms Fight vs. Victor Ortiz, Not Pacquiao

Floyd Mayweather Jr. heard his fans' desperate pleas for a fight between him and Manny Pacquiao, and he’s finally ready to act. Today, via his Twitter account, Mayweather announced to his 1.2 million followers that he will return to the ring on September 17 versus...Victor Ortiz?

Wait, what?

That’s right, the undefeated former champion has confirmed that he will be squaring off against Ortiz, the new WBC welterweight champion. Ortiz, of course, famously moved up from junior welterweight and proceeded to win the title in April against the once-undefeated Andre Berto.

Although this fight has been speculated about for seemingly weeks now, the official cringe-worthy statement didn’t come until Tuesday morning.

Mayweather’s tweet:

"My fans have been waiting long enough. Floyd Mayweather vs. Victor Ortiz. Sept-17 2011 for the WBC World Championship"

Las Vegas, Nevada and Dallas, Texas have both been rumored locales to host this fight.

Here's to hoping that this is just Mayweather's way of easing back into the boxing world, all the while mentally preparing for a fight against the Filipino superstar that wants to end his undefeated streak once and for all.
