On November 13, Manny Pacquiao will look for a title in his 8th weight class when he takes on Antonio Margarito at Cowboys Stadium for the vacant WBC Light Middleweight Title. As he continues his assault on another division, Pacquiao will again face a larger man who is looking to come back after a knockout loss to Shane Mosley and a loaded-glove controversy.
Pacquiao, the Philipino lefty, is going to be tough for Margarito to handle as he is fantastic with both hands. And at 31 years old he still is improving with his feet and this will be crucial against the larger Margarito. Pacquiao has even looked his best at an age where most fighters tend to begin their fall. He only has one loss since 1999 and has beaten the best at 140 and 147 pounds.
Margarito should be able to take punishment as he has shown in the past. Not only can he take it, he can give it out as well. He throws a lot of punches, particularly to the body where he excels, and uses his left hook with force. He will have about 4 inches in height over Paqciao and has a 73 inch reach, so the size factor is in his corner. Despite his loss to Mosley, Margarito has been impressive leading up to that fight and has a huge win over Miguel Cotto to add to his resume.
Pacquiao will bring in one of the best records of the modern era with 51 wins, 3 losses and 2 draws. He also has 38 KO’s in his 51 wins. He has quite a resume with wins over top fighters in many weight classes and has beaten 16 fighters with world class resumes. Not only did he end the careers of Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton, he also has impressive wins over top fighters in Cotto and Joshua Clottey.
Margarito has a professional record of 38-6 with 27 KO’s. He started boxing in his teens and three of those losses came during these years. He also has some impressive wins and they include victories over Clottey and Cotto as well. But losses to Mosley and Paul Williams kind of stalled his momentum a little and he now looks to get it back against Pacquiao.
As expected, Boxing sportsbooks have Pacquiao as the favorite in this bout with a moneyline set at -500. Margarito has his set at +300. The OVER/UNDER set by sportsbooks is set at 9 1/2 rounds with the OVER at +110 and the UNDER at -150.
