Euro 2012 Quick Hits: Poland, England, Spain, Russia and More

Publish date:

Poland striker Robert Lewandowski, now a best priced 22/1 to be top goal scorer at Euro 2012, was as long as 150/1 to take the award just six months ago, that’s according to leading online odds comparison site

Oddschecker have tracked the top goalscorer market over the past 12 months to highlight the most dramatic movements, and Lewandowski’s odds represent the biggest shift. Co-hosts Poland will be hoping their number nine can continue his prolific scoring form for club side Borussia Dortmund to help them qualify from Group A.

England and Spain both have problems up front, with notable absentees giving others the chance to shine. Roy Hodgson’s team is without the suspended Wayne Rooney for the first two group games, with Andy Carroll a likely deputy. Carroll was 66/1 in February to take the golden boot but some bookmakers are now refusing to offer more than 33/1 on the Liverpool striker.

Spain are without front man David Villa through injury, and towering Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente is being tipped to replace him. Llorente is priced up at 14/1 having previously been 40/1 in December.

Russian striker Aleksandr Kerzhakov is another who has seen strong backing in recent weeks. A best priced 66/1 back in December of last year, Kerzhakov is as short as 25/1.

Punters have turned their noses up at several out of form big names including Manchester City’s Mario Balotelli and Bayern Munich’s Arjen Robben. Balotelli was just 16/1 at the turn of the year but is now widely available at 33/1, whilst Robben, who suffered Champions League heart-break less than a month ago, has gone out from 24/1 to 47/1.

Robben’s Bayern team mate Thomas Muller has produced the biggest discrepancies across the Oddschecker panel of bookmakers. The German striker is 20/1 with Totesport and Betfred but 33/1 with Bodog.
