ESPN Fires Ron Franklin Over Jeannine Edwards Comments

Publish date:

Ron Franklin, ESPN's voice of college football on Saturday night for more than two decades, has officially been fired by the network, according to ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz (via USA Today). The worldwide leader said his inappropriate and much-publicized comments towards reporter Jeannine Edwards was the reason.

During last week’s bowl game preparations, Franklin reportedly demeaned Edwards when she attempted to join a conversation he was having with someone else.

When she objected to him calling her “sweet baby,” he apparently got angry and called her an “a—hole.” Initial reports had Franklin calling her “sweet cakes,” but those reports have since gotten amended.

Franklin issued an apology to Edwards shortly after the incident -- however, it was obviously to no avail.

The veteran announcer joined the company in 1987 and has had issues with ESPN’s behavioral policy in the past.
