Dwight Howard Trade: Revised Championship Odds for Lakers, Heat, Thunder, Celtics and More

There is no denying that Dwight Howard makes the Los Angeles Lakers noticeably better, but does he make them better than the Miami Heat?

How about the Oklahoma City Thunder?

Less than 24 hours after we first heard about this ridiculous trade, the good folks over at Bovada revised their championship odds for next season.

In their estimation, the Lakers’ acquisition was impressive – but not impressive enough to propel them above the defending champions. Miami, the favorite to bring home a title in 2012-13, is currently listed at 5/1.

However, Howard did bump L.A. above Oklahoma City in the odds listings. The Lakers are currently at 3/1 to win a championship next year, whereas OKC is 11/2.

It remains to be seen whether the Thunder’s young legs and established chemistry will ultimately carry them past Kobe Bryant and Co., but there is no denying that the Lakers are better off now than they were a day ago. Even though this year’s second round series was surprisingly close for three out of five games, OKC clearly outclassed their much older counterparts when it mattered most. With Howard, there is at least a smaller likelihood of that happening.

Needless to say, Oct. 30 can’t get here fast enough.

Here is how the odds break down:

Miami Heat 5/2

Los Angeles Lakers 3/1

Oklahoma City Thunder 11/2

Chicago Bulls 9/1

San Antonio Spurs 14/1

Dallas Mavericks 18/1

Los Angeles Clippers 18/1

Boston Celtics 25/1

Indiana Pacers 25/1

Philadelphian 76ers 25/1

Memphis Grizzlies 30/1

Brooklyn Nets 35/1

Denver Nuggets 35/1

New York Knicks 35/1
