Donald Cerrone Looking to Make a Statement vs. Jeremy Stephens

Publish date:

Having racked up four straight victories in the Octagon last year, WEC standout Donald Cerrone was well on his way to a landmark 2011 when he ran into Nate Diaz.

The two men met at UFC 141 on December 30, with Cerrone getting a lesson in the 209. As they often do for fighters when facing a Diaz, things got personal for Cerrone. He lost his cool in the Octagon and sacrificed his gameplan for one that played right into Diaz's.

The unanimous decision loss he was met with that night may have slowed Cerrone's momentum, but it came far from killing the fight in The Cowboy. The 28-year-old is slated to take on Jeremy Stephens at UFC on FUEL TV 3 in May, and hopes to make a statement that will set him back on the road to the title.

"You know, Jeremy comes, he's gonna stand there, he's gonna fight and I respect that," Cerrone said during a recent appearance on the DC101 radio show. "So, I'm also gonna stand there and I'm gonna fight him. We're gonna throw down and give the fans what they wanna see, man: three rounds of just going after it.

"A hundred percent ready, anywhere it goes. I'm ready. I can't wait to get in there and do it."

UFC on FUEL TV 3 goes down on May 15 from the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia and will feature a main event between featherweight contenders Dustin Poirier and Chan Sung Jung.
