Joe Flacco just got a lot of money from the Baltimore Ravens. In fact, his new salary makes him the highest paid football player in history. Did he deserve it? Well, I believe numbers will always be more important than anyone’s opinion. So, instead of just giving you another opinion, listed below is Joe Flacco’s rank among NFL QB’s last season during the regular season:
QB Rating: 87.7 (12th in the NFL)
TD: 22 (tied with Carson Palmer and Matt Schaub for 15th)
Completion Percentage: 59.7% (19th in the NFL, 3 spots behind Ryan Fitzpatrick)
Passing Yards: 3,817 (14th in the NFL)
Yards per pass attempt: 7.19 (14th in the NFL)
Yards per game: 239 (16th in the NFL)
(To Flacco’s credit, his interceptions were down in 2013, with only 10).
What does all this mean though? Do we just throw out Flacco’s regular season history because of one impressive (granted, very impressive) super bowl run?
Like I said, I am not going to voice my personal opinion, I am just giving the stats.
However, if this contract is based on a playoff run, what should Eli Manning and Ben Roethlisberger be making?
Bottom line: Is Joe Flacco worth it?
Well, while the answer to that question is yet to come, one thing is for sure, Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (free agent in 2015 and #1 in QB Rating and completion percentage) is very happy about this contract.
