Despite Recent Loss, Tyron Woodley Feels Like He'll Get "Another Shot"

Publish date:

Tyron Woodley suffered his first professional loss in MMA Saturday night, as Nate Marquardt claimed the vacant Strikeforce welterweight title with a victory in the co-main event of Strikeforce: Rockhold Vs. Kennedy.

Woodley, who had picked up 10 straight victories to begin his career inside the cage, was battered and dropped in the fourth round. Marquardt, a former UFC fighter, landed three hard elbows before finishing Woodley off with a big uppercut.

"I'm super sad & wanted bad, but 2night I came up short," Woodley posted on Twitter. "Been a long journey really wanted to bring home the belt to the CG family. Thanks all we will get another shot."

Woodley moved into position to contend for the belt with three straight decision victories over Jordan Mein, Paul Daley and Tarec Saffiedine. The former NCAA wrestling standout decided to trade blows with Marquardt, trying to prove those that have been critical of his style wrong.

"Hopefully u notice there wasn't much laying and praying," Woodley posted in response to someone asking him about that style of fighting.
