Demian Maia Earns a Big Win at UFC 153
Fighting for the first time in his native country of Brazil since 2006, Demian Maia quickly jumped on Rick Story. Two minutes later, Maia had earned a submission victory at UFC 153: Silva vs. Bonnar.
The win was the second for Maia at welterweight, as he decided to switch weight classes after becoming a contender in the middleweight ranks. Maia (17-4) defeated Dong Hyun Kim earlier this year via TKO.
"I am very happy to fight here," Maia said. "I wanted to fight here. To get the finish, it is great."
Maia lost a decision to Chris Weidman early in 2012, prompting the move down to 170 pounds. He is now 5-2 in his last seven fights overall inside the Octagon.
Story (14-6) lost for the third time in his last four fights. He had won six consecutive fights from 2009-2011.
