College Football Signing Day: Nebraska Lands Aaron Curry, Alonzo Moore

The Nebraska Cornhuskers opened up National Signing Day with a bang on Wednesday morning when they pulled in two highly sought-after recruits in defensive tackle Aaron Curry and jack-of-all-trades Alonzo Moore. Both players should be solid pick-ups for the Huskers’ traditionally fierce defense, and both guys were mostly assumed to be Nebraska-bound before they made their official announcements.

What Curry lacks in size and athleticism he more than makes up for in smarts and good technique. He moves well, knows how to fight off offensive line players, and has a certain knack for keeping his head up and going after the quarterback even when the play looks to be dead. His weaknesses, as mentioned, mostly center around his size and his development as a pass rusher. The general expectation is that Rick Kaczenski will be able to mold Curry into a special player.

Curry was also courted by Arizona, Boston College, Boise State, Indiana, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri and Mississippi.

Meanwhile, Nebraska’s other big pick-up of the day in Moore will provide the powers that be with some legitimate versatility that they in turn can use as they see fit. He can play both cornerback and safety on the defensive end, and wide receiver and quarterback on the offensive end. Look for the Huskers to utilize him on defense, though. In high school, for what it's worth, he also proved himself to be a very solid return man.

Moore stands tall at 6’2” and 170 pounds, and runs the 40 in 4.65 seconds. Before opting to go with Nebraska he turned down offers from Mississippi State, Louisiana Tech, and Northwestern State.
