College Football Recruiting Update: Mike McGlinchey Not Leaning Towards Penn State

Publish date:

It has been rumored lately that OL Mike McGlinchey from William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia is a strong Penn State lean. recently caught up with the 6’9, 280-pound prospect to hear his view on Penn State and the recruiting process.

“Things have been going really well,” he said, referring to the recruiting process. “It has definitely been crazy the past few weeks, though,” he continued.

This should not come as a surprise as McGlinchey has quickly become one of the most sought-after offensive line prospects in the country. He currently holds double-digit offers, and says that Penn State, Maryland, Duke, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Florida, among others, are recruiting him the hardest.

When asked what he is looking for in a school, he mentioned several factors. “Academics are important, and I also want to go to a school with solid football. I want to go to a place where the people are great, the coaching staff is great and a place where I feel like I will be successful.”

He stressed that recent rumors and tweets about him being a Penn State lean are false, and did not come from him. In fact, he said he has no favorites and is “neutral”. However, all is not lost for the Nittany Lions.

“[I like their] new coaching staff,” he said. “Penn State is close to home, it is a well-respected school, and it has solid football,” he continued.

McGlinchey has not visited Penn State on an unofficial, but has spoken with Coach Vanderlinden, Kavanaugh, McWhorter and O’Brien over the phone. He also said that he would like to visit in the near-future, although no plans have been set up.
