Marcus Lattimore has played such an important role in the Gamecocks success; his contributions will be felt long after he leaves Columbia.
A perfect example is his impact on the recruiting of future running backs for South Carolina. The Gamecocks landed four-star Mike Davis in the 2012 class and many expect him to be the second best tailback in Columbia this upcoming season. The 2013 recruiting class is getting closer and closer to being completed but there are still a few targets left on the board and two big-time running back targets recently visited South Carolina this past weekend.
Oklahoma commitment Greg Bryant and Philadelphia native David Williams both visited South Carolina over the weekend and the Gamecocks are putting themselves in great shape to land another top running back prospect in this class.
South Carolina was a team mentioned early for Bryant in his recruitment but the Florida running back committed early to Oklahoma in a bit of a surprise. This hasn't stopped teams from contacting one of the top 10 running backs in the country and that includes South Carolina and Auburn. This tweet from 247sports.com Luke Stampini explains it all:
Oklahoma needs to keep tabs on RB Greg Bryant. Lots of talk Auburn & South Carolina opened things up. 247sports.com/Player/Greg-Br…

It sounds like South Carolina has made an impact on the OU commitment. It makes sense thanks to what Marcus Lattimore has done at South Carolina. Bryant could be a similiar type of running back to Marcus Lattimore minus some of the weight but a bit faster. The running game is certainly a feature now in South Carolina's offense. Lattimore could be gone after the 2012 season leaving open a perfect opportunity for Bryant to come in an earn immediate playing time. Who wouldn't want to step in and replace an All-American like Marcus Lattimore?
The other running back mentioned is David Williams. Williams is another four-star running back on the Gamecocks' recruiting board. This Philadelphia native has plenty of offers from around the country and visited South Carolina late this past weekend. In an interview with PalmettoSports.com, he told them he "loved it" when asked about his visit to Columbia.
South Carolina will have to contend with schools like Penn State, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Michigan State when it comes to schools up north but South Carolina has done particularly well up north in recruiting the past couple of seasons. The warm climate and opportunity of playing time after Lattimore has to be appealing to Williams just like it is for Bryant.
Of the two, Bryant is higher on the board for the Gamecocks. He seems to be a bit more dynamic than Williams, but lets not cut Williams short. He's a great player in his own right as well and South Carolina would be thrilled to have either running back.
Neither player is coming out and saying much at the moment when it comes to their recruiting. Williams won't name any favorites and Bryant is still communicating as an Oklahoma recruit. However, both players are intrigued by South Carolina and it's easy to see why.
Who will be the next Gamecocks' running back commitment? Odds are it could be one of these two. Hard to go wrong with either one.
