Today there are 68 days until kickoff
68 was both the longest run from scrimmage last season and the longest punt return. Incidentally both plays came on special teams.
In the season opener against East Carolina, Ace Sanders fielded a punt at his own 32 in the 4th quarter. Sanders then raced 68 yards for the last Gamecock score of the game. The Gamecocks led 56-31 and won 56-37.
The next week against Georgia Melvin Ingram had the longest run of the year. In the second quarter with Georgia leading and the offense needing a boost, Ingram took a direct snap on a punt and followed a pulling blocker over the left side. He raced down the sideline and only had Bulldog punt returner Brandon Boykin to beat.
Boykin, wanting no part of a collision with Ingram, took a dive at Ingram's legs but was unsuccessful. Ingram continued on for one of the highlights of the season.
