Today there are 59 days until kickoff.
59 was once the record for most receptions in a season by Fred Zeigler.
In 1968 Zeigler caught the ball in only 9 games. South Carolina played 10 that year, but a broken collar bone kept Zeigler out of the Clemson game.
The next season he would catch 52 passes and help lead USC to the ACC championship.
He was twice named first team All-SEC for his efforts.
His record stood for nearly 20 years has only been surpassed by other great receivers. In 1986 Sterling Sharpe broke the record when he caught 74 passes.
That record stood for 19 years until Kenny McKinley came along and caught 77 passes.
Alshon Jeffery surpassed that total with 88 in 2010. Zeigler is now 8th on the all time list having been surpassed by Stanley Pritchett and Sidney Rice, but who knows how many he could have caught with today's extended season.
