College Baseball Analysis: South Carolina Gets Clemson, Coastal Carolina, Manhattan

It may not be fair, but the Gamecocks have one of the toughest regional matchups in this year's NCAA Tournament.

I guess that's expected when you're back-to-back national champions.

South Carolina earned the last national seed in the NCAA Tournament and found out that they would host number two seed Clemson, number three seed Coastal Carolina and number four seed Manhattan in this weekend's regional starting on Friday. Coastal Carolina won the Big South Tournament while Manhattan won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament this past weekend. South Carolina and Clemson were eliminated from their conference tournaments.

South Carolina is expected to pitch Michael Roth, Jordan Montgomery and Colby Holmes this weekend. Forest Koumas is still dealing with an injury and may not be available to pitch this weekend.

The rivalry will take the majority of the headlines this weekend, but the most important thing for South Carolina is to focus on the game at hand. Up first, is the number four seed Manhattan Jaspers.

This team has faced adversity before and will do so again. It could come this weekend when they face Clemson. Or Coastal Carolina. Or Manhattan. Anything is possible in the NCAA Tournament.

But know this - South Carolina will be as prepared as a team can be for the challenges ahead. You give me Ray Tanner and this team and the unthinkable becomes a possibility.

It all starts this Friday at 4:00 p.m.

Are you ready?
