Chael Sonnen Will Appear in Front of Nevada State Athletic Commission

Publish date:

Chael Sonnen (or reps for the middleweight fighter) will appear in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission next Monday in regards to his recently-filed therapeutic use exemption (TUE) for testosterone replacement therapy (TRT).

Sonnen is scheduled to face rival Anderson Silva in a rematch at UFC 148 on July 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for the UFC middleweight championship. He infamously ran into trouble with the California State Athletic Commission following his first bout against Silva (which he lost by submission) for registering a 16.9:1 T:E ratio (the allowable limit in California is 4:1) and for improperly disclosing his usage of testosterone replacement therapy.

According to the Wrestling Observer, Sonnen has gone through the necessary steps (paperwork, urine and blood testing overseen by commission doctors) and applied for a TUE through Nevada. On Monday, the NSAC will vote based on his application and the results of his tests on whether or not he'll be granted the exemption.

Only three MMA fighters have ever been granted TUEs for TRT by the NSAC.

Nick Diaz's hearing over his positive test for marijuana metabolites is also expected to be on the NSAC docket for next Monday.
