CFL's Montreal Alouettes Put Stephen Garcia on Injured List

Publish date:

Former South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia is currently listed on the nine-game injured list for the CFL's Montreal Alouettes.

Garcia joined the Alouettes on June 27th after signing a three-year deal with the CFL team. He attended a tryout in late May that eventually turned into a contract offer for him to continue his playing career up north professionally.

Stephen Garcia made the news after signing with Montreal when a fabricated story circled the internet about him injuring his hand by flashing a "peace" sign. Garcia cleared this up with in early July and mentioned how excited he was for the opportunity to continue playing.

At the time, Garcia was listed on the one-game injured list.

Now, Garcia has moved the nine-game injured list for the Montreal Alouettes. The nine-game injured list allows a team to not count that players' salary to the team's salary cap.

While it's a tough break for Garcia, it certainly gives him a chance to learn behind one of the CFL's greats in Anthony Calvillo.

He's certainly had a lot of interesting times in Columbia, South Carolina but this will allow him to focus on the game of football while being out of the spotlight. It sounds like this could end up being a win-win for Stephen Garcia.
