College Basketball Analysis: Louisville Defeats UNLV

Despite an undefeated record, the Cards were hearing about how they haven’t played anybody, their 7-0 record was built on cupcakes, and UNLV would show what kind of team Louisville had. Well, if the UNLV is the indicator, then the Cards have a pretty good team.

Louisville and the 19th ranked Runnin Rebels played an up and down, exciting game, but in the end, the Cards depth won out.

If I told you before the game, Louisville would get a combined 35 points from their starters, including 0 from Mike Marra and Rakeem Buckles, how bad would you think the Cards got beat? I would have probably guessed around 30 points.

Today’s game provided a perfect example of the quality depth this UofL team possesses. No points from their starting power forward and small forward, who also happen to be the top two scorers on the team.

No problem.

The starting point guard is in foul trouble virtually the entire second half, then fouls out.

No problem.

I’ll have more tomorrow on this game. It’s time to celebrate a big victory for the Cards, who are now 8-0. Here are some quick thoughts that I’ll get into later:

Great to see Kyle Kuric become a presence.

When Preston Knowles gets into a groove, he doesn’t miss despite how goofy his shot may look.

I could not love a player more than I love George Goode.

And you can now refer to Chris Smith as “The Truth”.
