Can Frankie Edgar Become the First Fighter to Hold 3 UFC Championships?

Frankie Edgar (14-3-1) walks around as a former lightweight champion. In early 2013 he will look to capture the featherweight championship. If he is successful, Edgar's head coach Mark Henry thinks that the New Jersey native can hold gold in three different weight classes.

"I think he can be the first guy with three belts you know," said Henry on MMA Weekly Radio. "I think if it's for history, I think if Frankie beats Jose, I think it's hard to deny that he is one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world if he won three."

After three defenses, Edgar dropped his lightweight title and the rematch that followed to Benson Henderson (18-2). After UFC 156 he challenges José Aldo (21-1) for the featherweight championship in what will be his debut in a new weight class. If Edgar was to win, Henry doesn't see why he can't cut to the bantamweight division and challenge for that title.

"If Frankie was to go for two belts, three belts, I don't know how you can deny him," said Henry. "It's something special. You don't see something like that, I mean, nobody's ever done it and weight wise it could be done."
