Brian Kelly to Eagles? Notre Dame Coach Interviews for Vacant Position

Two days after being on the wrong end of 28-point BCS Championship game loss, Notre Dame's Brian Kelly interviewed for the Philadelphia Eagles’ available head coaching vacancy.

There is no word on whether or not Kelly was sold on Philly, however, by all accounts Eagles brass was definitely sold on him. At the moment the Notre Dame coach is out of the country, but according to multiple reports, the Eagles will resume talks with him once he returns.

Kelly led the Fighting Irish to 12 victories and a national title game berth this year; unfortunately things ultimately ended on something of a sour note when they got destroyed by Alabama in one of the highest rated championship games ever. Nevertheless, that final shellacking notwithstanding, Kelly turnaround job at South Bend has earned him a lot of respect from fans and pro football execs everywhere.

From @mortreport and me: Eagles met with Notre Dame HC Brian Kelly, who is now out of country. Sides expect to revisit talks.

The real question everyone should be asking themselves is this: are the Eagles meeting with Kelly because they are genuinely impressed with his work, or are they doing it because the guys they originally wanted have all turned them down?

It’s becoming increasingly apparent that the Philly job isn’t as alluring as a lot of folks thought it might be. Andy Reid essentially got a better gig after being fired; Chip Kelly turned the position down without hesitation; Bill O’Brien leveraged it in order to get an extra million from a booster. That’s it. That’s the extent of the interest shown from big names as it pertains to the Eagles job.

As of this moment, based on him leaving town and all, it doesn’t really seem like Kelly is all that enthralled with the possibility of leaving Notre Dame either.
